Poems From The Porch

The hummingbird stills comes to the feeder when it is storming,

even though the wind makes the flight seem daunting.

She knows where her sustenance is found.

Return to the Well amidst your suffering,

for it is the only place where your thirsty heart

will be quenched.

When tears of rain are pouring down your face,

come home to the Healer within.

Drink deeply with each gasping breath.

Consistency will hydrate and reassure you

for the inevitable sunny days ahead.

Poems From The Porch

Sitting with the steadfastness of the vine-draped oaks,

there is a stillness in the depths of my being.

I am draped, too, with the peace of simple presence,

inhaling this moment,

exhaling gratitude.

Thunder is sounding in the distance,

water droplets falling lazily from the leaves,

and now the rain again,

pouring in sheets from the sky.

Weather changes,

like the circumstances of our lives.

Thoughts, feelings, and actions

are all part of the transient show.

The Eternal Witness within

calmly abides.

Remember who you are.

Poems From The Porch

I thought there was a problem,

my head making up stories

about how life is hard.

Then my heart woke me up,

and I saw the rich, red roses smiling at me,

the flashy daisies waving,

and the ease of the cats lounging on the porch.

Love reminded me of my grace-filled life,

and all I could do was smile and say,

“Thank you.”

(for Marie)

Poems From The Porch

Daisies dancing in the rain.

Chimes ringing out their blessings.

Balm of Love healing my sorrow.

To rest in the arms of Love,

without striving,

is to trust that nothing need be done

but to receive

grace upon grace so generously pouring,

yet tenderly administered,

upon a naked heart.

Only Light,

the Light of Love,

can reveal so fully the fragile beauty

of necessary pain.

A yearning world,

appearing in dualities,

that beg for reconciliation,

is fed again and again

with the assurance that all is well.

It cannot be otherwise,

wholeness is Truth,

only appearances…

Poems From The Porch

Change the perspective that is stressing you out.

There is no problem,

except that your thinking has created it.

See the jasmine vines as they hang luxuriously from the mighty oak,

the sweet fragrance of God.

In a heart centered in Love,

there is only infinite empathy and compassion.

The source of your pain is your viewpoint.

Look again.

In the east, the sun is rising,

casting cherishing rays on the weeds and wildflowers alike,

and unconditionally.

You already are everything you want to be.

Shame is not of God.

It is your belief in your…

Poems From The Porch

Two ducks waddling in the field

Steady progress to what destination?

Now off they fly.

Bird sounds filling the air

Eager rooster

Persistent woodpecker

Vocal doves

Other avians singing

Roses peeking at me from the corner of the porch,

hoping I’ll notice.

Daisies open sunny-side up,

others poised to be freed from their shells.

These thoughts you have,

the ones about limitations

and the way things should be,

crack them open now

so that you, too, may be freed.

Poems From The Porch

Expectant plants, waiting to bloom,

are basking in the sun’s incubation.

My heart, full of hope,

is open to receive,

in complete dependence on Love for provision.

The happiness of an open hand

waiting to be filled,

trembles in anticipation of manifestation.

Due date today,

always fresh, ever new,

the potential and promise of Life ever-birthing.

Poems From The Porch

Coffee prayer in the morning,

front porch or side?

How to choose when every detail of the earth is so enchanting?

Choice made by the wind,

and here I sit entranced

by its caress of the trees and the heavy trailing vines,

adorned with jasmine so sweet and fragrant.

The world in motion,

in contrast to my outward stillness,

reminds me that my heart is steadily beating,

and my blood is coursing

with millions of molecules of metabolism.

No, my body is not still,

yet I feel so calm;

life in all its paradoxes.

Reconciliation is…

Poems From The Porch

White clover blossoms blanketing the grass

are reaching out to touch the wildflowers, purple and yellow.

Blue-sky sunshine illuminates their progression

in patches of radiant wonder.

In a spectrum of green,

the trees are revealing themselves

as the morning light blesses their nuances.

Hello, spritely duck pair,

who flew in just now

to witness the spectacle with me!

My smile and embrace of this life, so enchanting,

is most certainly, my version of purring.

Poems From The Porch

What a joy it is to watch the duck pair fly from tree to tree,

enjoying each place for a while,

then moving on!

A curiosity it is in what the appeal might be

in a place without a pond.

Still, for so many days,

intermittent, perhaps,

here they are.

Where is the stout raccoon

with the countenance of a grandfather,

who used to take his meals on this porch,

then limp away?

Ever abiding in my heart,

he lives in memorial,

as do all the dogs and cats I’ve ever known,

leaving their paw print…
